Talking Colorism

I returned to WHUR's The Daily Drum (SiriusXM 141) Monday, July 23 to discuss colorism. Ironically, I was in a Twitter discussion on the topic a couple of weekends ago. I think maybe that's what prompted the show topic. There are all kinds of ways for conversations about colorism to go off the rails, but this one stayed mostly on the rails.

What was most important to me was being clear that "colorism" is a skin-tone bias against people with darker skin that has institutional and interpersonal consequences. I wasn't going to be there to co-sign anyone who came to the table saying that they were light-skinned and experienced colorism because a dark-skinned person called them red-boned that one time. I told the producer this when she called, and she booked me anyway. Here's a link to the podcast.
